Across the Table

A virtual artist talk series presented in partnership with The Kitchen via Instagram Live February–April 2022

Across the Table brought together BOMB Magazine and The Kitchen in dialogue and collaboration at the turning of anniversaries across both institutions. With both BOMB and The Kitchen having established platforms based on centering the artist’s voice, they teamed up to present a series of conversations featuring artists with distinct practices and who have never-before been seen in public conversation with each other. As the lead curator and producer on BOMB’s end of this series, I worked closely with The Kitchen’s Curatorial Fellow to brainstorm pairings, solicit participants, and execute each talk. We worked together to come up with pairings that would be fresh and engaging. Similarly, we made sure to feature artists of a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, giving careful consideration to how this series would either strengthen each artist’s preexisting relationship with the institutions or foster a budding one.

Across the Table gave space to center the creative process as a site of exploration ripe with mutual points of departure.

The series successfully showcased BOMB Magazine to younger, more artistically and ethnically diverse audiences while also exposing BOMB’s core audience to contemporary, needle pushing art makers––such as Jeremy O. Harris and Qualeasha Wood––that otherwise may have been off their radar. The series made these accomplishments all while staying true to BOMB’s mission of heralding the artist’s voice.
